G’Day
end of summer, not a memorable one and now it’s time to put the hammock away. Took it out again as summer has returned, cyclones have gone on holiday. Won’t last long.
So this month I have been reading more about augmented reality, its promise and potential, the effects of technology on learning, the Raspberry Pi (mainly because a friend was waxing poetic about its amazing capabilities) and the rise and rise of learning analytics.Plus a brief play with Google Auto Draw.
All very interesting when one reflects on the changes that have occurred even within the last six months. Where’s it all going? Maybe the article ‘What will learning look like in 2025?’ has the answers.
Also noted that a friend and colleague Prof Tom Reeves is the Keynote at the International Conference on e-Learning 2017 Lisbon, 20-27 July 2017. Should be a great event with Tom on board.
In the posting this month there are links to maker spaces, learning analytics, Raspberry Pi, blended learning, education and open access, learning in 2025, competencies and standards, micro learning and mobile, learning code, project management for instructional designers , conferences and the odd one out.
That’s it for now.
1.BLENDED LEARNING for the Adult Education Classroom.
Extract from the introduction:
‘This guide to blended learning is intended for teachers and administrators of adult basic education (including ESL,ESOL,ELL, adult basic education, adult secondary education, and transition to higher education)’. I think its a worthwhile resource for anyone involved in using blended learning approaches for their students. Clearly written and well structured guide which can be a valuable resource.

2.Raspberry Pi[3 Model B] continues to evolve and the folks at Raspberry Pi have a neat guide to using the device in the classroom. Some good things will happen if the kids are allowed to experiment and build.

3.Building Maker Spaces vs. Building a Maker Culture. ‘Maker spaces’ have been around for relatively short time and appear to be gathering pace. I found this article quite informative and useful as guide to their potential for enhancing student learning and especially their understanding.

Educause put out an article devoted to the nature of Makerspaces. Also a good read to complement the above: Makerspaces

4. What will learning look like in 2025?: Alchemy, innovation and learning on the campus of the future. It’s not a matter of ‘if’ more of a matter of ‘when’. It is not difficult to imagine that this will be the learning environment of the future. Most of the technology exist today and with the rapid rate of technological transformation, not difficult to believe this vision of the future.

9.PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS:Wiley, et al.
An example of what students and faculty can do when they work collaboratively to revise an existing text book. Also a useful resource for those teaching Project Management in educational technology.
‘This book is based on a pre-existing openly licensed textbook which was donated to the commons by a benefactor that desires to remain anonymous, and has been collaboratively revised and remixed by faculty and students at Brigham Young University’.
